If you draw a line from Galway in the west to Dundalk on the Northeast coast then above this line lies some of the finest course in the British Isles.

With Royal County Down and Royal Portrush golf clubs in Ulster across to courses such as Ballyliffin, Westport and County Sligo on the Atlantic washed West Coast we feature a range of clubs to suit all requirements.

Access and availability at both Royal County Down and Royal Portrush is very much sought after, so early booking is strongly advised. Also we would recommend that your golf itinerary be established before making accommodation bookings.

1 Portstewart Golf Club
Portstewart Golf Club This championship links course was founded in 1894 and provides a great foil for the nearby Royal Portrush GC. Access to this private club is quite restricted on Saturdays, after 3pm only and Sunday play is also limited. Well worth playing.

Located: Western boundary of Portstewart, north of Coleraine.

2 Royal Portrush Golf Club
Royal Portrush is undoubtedly one of the very finest championship links in the whole of the British Isles and hosted The Open Championship that was won by Max Faulkner. A must for any golfer playing the 'grand tour' of Ireland, combine it with nearby Portstewart GC and do a stopover. Restricted access at this very sought after private members' club.

3 Royal County Down Golf Club
A true championship links course much revered by all that play it. This private members' club is very popular so early booking is a must. Definitely worth the journey!

Located: Newcastle, 30 miles south of Belfast on Irish Sea coast.

4 Galway Bay Golf & Country Club
Designed by Christie O'Connor JR. Galway Bay offers a stiff parkland challenge in a spectacular ocean-side setting.

Located: 10 miles east of Galway City on N18.

5 Connemara Golf Club
The par of 72 is rarely achieved on this challenging Atlantic links course, especially as the final 6 holes provide a very testing finish.

Located: 8 miles Southwest of Clifden on the western fringe of the Connemara National Park.

6 Westport Golf Club
On the shores of Clew Bay, Westport GC is an outstanding example of Hawtree design. A links course under the shadow of the imposing Croagh Patrick.

7 Carne Links (Belmullet)
Designed through imposing sand dunes this little gem of a course features many plateau greens and elevated tees. Deceptive doglegs and luring bunkers will catch out the player too keen on viewing the Atlantic scenery.

Located: 2 miles west of Belmullet, 20 miles west of Ballina.

8 Enniscrone Golf Club
Another of Ireland's great Atlantic links courses, founded in 1931 Enniscrone offers an interesting challenge requiring every club in the bag.

9 County Sligo Golf Club
"A tremendous test for the accomplished golfer and great fun for the modest player" is how Peter Alliss described County Sligo GC. This championship links has hosted most of Ireland's major championships during its long history.

10 Donegal Golf Club (Murvagh)
"Hauntingly beautiful and an excellent test of golf" is how golf journalist Peter Dobereiner described this excellent links course. Set amongst sand dunes in 2 loops of nine and freshened by an ever present Atlantic air.

11 Rosapenna Hotel & Golf Links
One of the great natural golf links in Ireland with an on-site hotel that doubles as the clubhouse

12 Ballyliffin Golf Club
Located at 12 o'clock on the island of Ireland sits these 36 wonderful holes of links golf. The Old course is complemented by the new Galshedy Links, which wends its way through some incredible dunes. Add this one to your itinerary if playing at Portstewart or Royal Portrush across the other side of Lough Foyle.
